This boxer is from a pic, where "Fire" looks quite serious but the owner described to me a giant tongue usually hangs out and the eyes have an "A.D.D." look, in fact this is probly the only pic where the tongue isn't out..... I'm glad she was there to tell me that because the downside of working from a pic is the PERSONALITY sometimes doesn't translate. This was one of my faves of all time.

LARGER THAN LIFE HARRING-TOONS!

I've been pretty busy on some freelance illustration work for an Events/Promotion Co.
I'm very fortunate in that I get to draw most of the days and in this particular assignment I got to do @ 90% of what I wanted-using my own cartoon characters in a tropical poolside setting to be displayed in Starwoods Hotel in NY.
The finished artwork was then printed 8 FEET HIGH and ran the length or the room! DEFINITELY THE LARGEST I've ever seen my work PRINTED! The funnything is they asked for very "different" characters, so I threw a George Carlin-ish burned out stoner dude in their along with a goth girl, and they nixed the GIRL, not the stoner!
Hope I get more like this....

I came across this strip I was working on called Windy Gap.
Based mostly on my father, family, friends & various seesaw, revolving door band members.
I put a lot of time and work into getting somewhere with this.
Brings up some kinda bittersweet feelings.
Long story short-promises. promises. Seems anyone at the mag that liked it who could do me any good was no longer with the company when I called again, or that the mag was no longer going.... Oh well, I still love these characters and I think I might just take another stab at it, yet.

I guess I'm a little late on getting to these 2 but I liked the way this came out.
It was completely unplanned to have Barrack look like he's breathing fire but I dig it.
In all honesty sometimes I like stuff that falls out of my pen without planning bettter than the ones I agonize over getting "just right"...think I might work on this more later.

M&m's Caricatures-with NOSE!

This one got the biggest laugh of the night.
"My friend", I say, "There is no way that anything I draw will look like you if I don't put some sort of a honker on it!.."

"You don't have to tell me, I've lived with this face for 50 odd years!" Just put me on a bike with a Bulldog and G on my sweater!"

Finally got some time to get to this!
THE NCN MINI CON IN ST LOUIS WAS A BLAST!
Great time with great friends drawing caricatures of eachother in every form, medium, and degree of exaggeration imaginable. Not for the thinskinned.
The NCN is a great organization of immense and diverse talents, definitely check it out!
Hats off to Roy Harper...I mean Okie, Debbo, Share, Ryan and anyone else involved.

This is my entry, done in ballpoint pen. I confess, the grays and blacks were done in photoshop, to save time.

TATTOO

Meant to post this a while ago...A good friend of mine had a family tragedy sometime ago. His sister was killed in a motorcycle accident. My friend Miguel, who I worked with for @5-6 yrs and have drawn@least 100 times (not flatteringly either), told me the girls brother, Leon, was tryna think of something to remember his sister by and recalled how much he liked my work that Miguel had shown him. I took this as a real compliment that he remembered my work since it had been prob @ 2-3 yrs that I saw Leon, and that he himself is a pretty kickass tattoo artist and knows many others. He's a very colorful guy, with a forked tongue,which he did to himself, various piercings and multi-tats...But I was really hesitant to do the degree of caricature on his sister that I did of Miguel. After talkin with Leon, it was apparent that he was looking more for something that caught Sara's fun-loving spirit than a grotesque caricature. He needed it ASAP & told me she loved pirates and emailed me some photos and this was the design we decided on. I've designed plenty of tattoos before, since highschool days.. from buddhas to skeletons, but none compare to this. It was a real honor to do. RIP Sarah Jean.
